Brooks Software Announces Release of PROMIS® 5.8 Manufacturing Execution System (MES)

New Version Provides Significant Integration Options and Functional Enhancements

CHELMSFORD, Mass., Nov. 14 / -- Brooks Software, a division of Brooks Automation, Inc. (NASDAQ:BRKS), and a leading provider of real-time applications for discrete manufacturing environments, today announced PROMIS 5.8, an upgrade of its PROMIS MES that provides enhancements in the @PROMIS web GUI making it easier to increase productivity and enforce stringent quality controls in the production of precision products. Existing customers using any of the three previous major version releases of PROMIS (5.5, 5.6, and 5.7) will be able to take advantage of all the new features with a single step upgrade.

"Brooks Software continues to invest in PROMIS to deliver value to our growing and loyal customer base," said Joe Bellini, president and chief operating officer of Brooks Software. "With over 25 years of proven performance, PROMIS continues to deliver value to today's semiconductor manufacturers."

PROMIS is a production-proven and reliable MES with rich, out-of-the-box functionality that has been installed in approximately 300 facilities worldwide. "Our development focus leverages that rich heritage by providing easy integration capability using established standards such as SOAP, and by allowing users to extend functionality without modifying PROMIS code," said Rick Smith, PROMIS Product Manager, and Brooks Software. "With PROMIS v5.8, we now support custom co-operative processing with only configuration data. The result is custom tracking rules with standard software that can be retained across upgrades."

PROMIS v5.8 includes the following features:

o @PROMIS - new GUI enhancements for performing functions in Task
Management, a powerful yet low-cost equipment maintenance module. The
GUI also allows the choice of Equipment-centric or Lot-centric
selection, providing improved fab equipment utilization.

o Refresh - provides a simple, safe mechanism to update all relevant
specifications for a lot, without opening up opportunity for error in
part/step selection -- significantly reducing the chance of
mis-processing.

o Real-Time Integrator (RTI) - the outbound API now supports web service
calls over HTTP. Besides eliminating the need to purchase traditional
middleware, this RTI protocol enables the use of external rules and
applications to influence tracking behavior without customizing PROMIS
code.

o Process Modeling - now provides more flexibility to reduce the number of
specifications, while allowing more accurate reflection of your real
processing needs.
