Introducing the LCG50 MEMS GyroChip® for Embedded Applications

Concord, Calif. – April 6, 2005– BEI Systron Donner Inertial Division (SDID), a division of BEI Technologies, Inc., has introduced a new single axis MEMS-based Quartz Angular Rate Sensor. This model is packaged on a small PC board module [1.16” (26mm) square x 0.42” (10.7mm) high], and complete with mounting hardware. The LCG50 (Low Cost Gyro 50 Series) is suited for easy integration into OEM applications. The board level configuration suits embedded applications where mounting versatility is required. This cost effective package is environmentally robust and offers performance characteristics of an instrument grade rate sensor. Applications include short-term navigation, guidance and control systems, flight testing, robotics, and vehicle instrumentation.

The LCG50 is a completely integrated unit with a GyroChip sensor and all required electronics. It requires only a DC voltage input for accurate angular rate measurements. This model employs BEI SDID’s patented double-ended quartz tuning fork technology. This mature design technology has earned an excellent reputation in space, military, and commercial applications. The LCG50 Sensing Element is manufactured on BEI’s high-volume MEMS automotive sensor production line that has shipped over twelve (12) million sensors to date at a rate in excess of 10,000 per day.

The LCG50’s robust performance specifications include an operating temperature of -40°to +85°C (Storage -55° to +100°C), operating vibration of 5gms (10gms survival), and shock rated to 500g PK (1/2sine@2msec). Also featured is a low input voltage of +5.0VDC, input current of <8mA, and an internal temperature sensor.

The LCG50 is available in three ranges (+100O/sec., +250O/sec., and +500O/sec.). The LCG50 is in full production and available for sale. For further information and specifications on the LCG50, and information on the complete BEI SDID product line, contact BEI Systron Donner Inertial Division. 2700 Systron Drive, Concord, Calif. 94518; Tel: (925) 671-6400; Fax: (925) 671-6647; E-mail; sales@systron.com; Web: www.systron.com.
