Vectron International Announces Industry's First High-Shock MEMS-Based Oscillator

New Compact Oscillator, Ideal for Manufactures of Smart Munitions, Projectile Electronics, Missiles, Gun-Hardened and other High-Shock and Vibration Applications

HUDSON, N.H., June 17 /-- Vectron International, a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of Frequency Control, Sensor, and Hybrid Product solutions, today announced its new VMEM5Q high-shock and vibration MEMS-based military clock oscillator. This latest Vectron product offering utilizes a small mass, high stiffness micromechanical resonator. Qualification testing of a 125 MHz oscillator showed no degradation in performance up to the maximum test capability of the test set, 30,000g in each axis. The device is designed to withstand up to 100,000g shock. Vectron will showcase this new VMEM5Q clock oscillator in Booth 1501 at the 2008 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium, to be held June 17-19, 2008 in Atlanta, Georgia.

"We believe the small size and rugged reliability that MEMS oscillators can offer are an important part of the future of the frequency control market. As a result, we are working to advance this next generation technology with our existing core competencies, to help customers evolve their platforms to meet and exceed market requirements and establish competitive differentiation," said Mario Saucedo, director of product development at Vectron's Hudson, NH facility. "Our latest breakthrough, the VMEM5Q, clearly demonstrates our commitment to bring leading-edge technology to our customers who are manufacturing guidance systems for small munitions, projectile electronics, missiles, and high-shock vibration applications."

"This MEMS based oscillator addresses a strong need for high-shock resistant timing components in the Precision Guided Munitions (PGM) market," said Greg Smolka, vice president of Vectron's Industrial Military and Space business unit. "The MEMS oscillator, together with the release of our new high-temperature oscillators, allows our customers to take timing into previously difficult application areas."

Vectron's VMEM5Q, utilizing Discera's (San Jose, CA) PureSilicon(TM) MEMS resonator, is available from 1 MHz to 130 MHz and offers operation in a -40 to 85 degree Celsius temperature range with 100 ppm and 50 ppm stabilities. The new oscillator operates off 3.3V supply and has an enable/disable feature to allow the clock output to be disabled for board testing. The VMEM5Q is housed in a 5 x 3.2 mm QFN package and has passed Vectron's rigourous qualification testing including MIL-PRF-55310. The VMEM5Q has been qualified, approved and is in use by a Tier 1 military customer in its gun-hardened munitions guidance system.

The VMEM5Q is currently available. For more information on the new VMEM5Q or any Vectron products, please contact a customer service representative at 1-88-VECTRON-1 or visit www.vectron.com.
