Shell Lubricants Introduces Shell Malleus® GL Grease

Full range of quality lubricants for mining and excavating equipment

Houston - Shell Lubricants has introduced a family of premium quality, high-performance greases ideally suited for mining and excavating equipment called Shell Malleus®. This family of products consists of two formulations, Shell Malleus® GL and Shell Malleus® OGM. Both formulations are specially developed for the lubrication and protection of open gears and wire ropes subjected to extreme load and temperatures.

Shell Malleus® GL is lead- and solvent-free and contains EP (extreme pressure) chemistry and a combination of solid additives to enhance load-carrying capability. Shell Malleus® GL is suitable as a multi-service lubricant that can be used as the "one grease" (multi-purpose and open gear) for an entire machine.

Shell Malleus ® OGM is also lead-free and contains EP (extreme pressure) chemistry and a combination of solid additives. The Shell Malleus® OGM medium contains a solvent to enhance its pumpability for extreme ambient climate conditions.

Shell Malleus® GL and OGM are highly effective for the lubrication of heavily loaded open gears found in grinding mills, kilns, shovels, draglines, stackers, reclaimers and excavator applications. These water-repellent lubricants are formulated with a blend of high-quality paraffinic mineral and synthetic base oils and a specially formulated additive system (including molybdenum disulfide and graphite) designed to provide optimum performance. The formulations allow the lubricants to stay soft and pliable over long periods, which helps prevent hard build-ups of product in the roots of the gear teeth.

"Heavy-duty mining and excavating equipment requires quality lubricants that can protect machines when operating under the harshest of conditions," said Walt Silveira, US Technical Manager, Shell Lubricants. "The Shell Malleus® GL and OGM greases' water-repellent formulations provide excellent anti-wear performance and corrosion protection, while maintaining outstanding physical and mechanical stability."

Shell Malleus® GL and OGM greases work well for a wide variety of industrial applications. The greases work as surface dressings for slow-moving gears open to the atmosphere and lubricate pivot pins/bushings and articulations found in earth-moving equipment. Additionally, they can be applied to mooring ropes and static and slow-moving wire ropes, including those intermittently immersed in salt water.

Shell Malleus® Grease GL has received approvals or recommendations from:
· FLSmidth (Shell Malleus® GL 400, 500 and 3500)
· Metso - Svedala (Shell Malleus® GL 3500)
· Nordberg (Shell Malleus® GL 400)
· Ferry Capitain (Shell Malleus® GL 400, 500 and 3500)
· Lincoln (Shell Malleus® GL 400 and 500)
· BE International (Shell Malleus® GL 3500, Shell Malleus® OGM Medium and Heavy)
· Komatsu Excavator (Shell Malleus® GL 25, 400)
· Bucyrus International (Shell Malleus® GL 3500, Shell Malleus® OGM Heavy and Extra Heavy)
