November 9, 2009 - Intended for high-speed systems, MAX3671/MAX3673 utilize low-noise VCO and PLL architecture to generate high-frequency (312.5 MHz), low-jitter (0.3 psRMS) clock signals from 62.5 MHz reference-clock input. They offer 9 phase-aligned LVPECL outputs, operate from 3.3 V ±5%, and may be configured through three 4-level control inputs. While MAX3671 simultaneously generates 2 different frequencies for both Ethernet port/MAC clocking, MAX3673 generates outputs for CPRI/UMTS reference clocking.

SUNNYVALE, CA-September 10, 2009-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX3671/MAX3673 low-jitter, frequency synthesizers with nine phase-aligned LVPECL outputs for high-speed systems. These devices utilize a low-noise VCO and PLL architecture to generate high-frequency (312.5MHz), low-jitter (0.3psRMS) clock signals from a 62.5MHz reference-clock input. Configured through three 4-level control inputs, the MAX3671 simultaneously generates two different frequencies for both Ethernet port clocking and MAC clocking, while the MAX3673 generates outputs for CPRI/UMTS reference clocking (122.88MHz, 245.76MHz). This capability eliminates the need for an expensive high-frequency oscillator and a fanout buffer, thus saving board space and cost. The MAX3671 is ideal for Ethernet interface applications such as enterprise switches and routers, and the MAX3673 is well suited for wireless base stations that require CPRI reference clocking.

The MAX3671/MAX3673 are fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range, and operate from 3.3V ±5%. They are available in a lead-free, 56-pin TQFN package. Prices start at $10.26 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available to speed designs.
