Long Dwell Flow Wrapper produces hermetically sealed packages.

Press Release Summary:

Capable of producing 150 packages/min, Pack 301 LD features long-dwell sealing system with sealing time up to 1 sec for air-tight sealed seams. Sealing system automatically detects if products are located between cross-sealing jaws and ensures that these packages are not sealed and are rejected after sealing station. This function eliminates contamination and detects any potential jams on line. Wrapper is suitable for fresh, perishable goods where modified atmosphere packaging is requested.

New Horizontal Long Dwell Flow Wrapper from Bosch Produces Hermetically Sealed Packages

o Revolving long dwell sealing system for gas-tight sealed seam

o Automatic detection of product between cross-sealing jaws minimizes cleaning time and reduces downtime

o Low total cost of ownership through simplified cleaning and maintenance

Bosch Packaging Technology expands its portfolio of horizontal form, fill and seal machines and will present the new Pack 301 LD (Long Dwell) flow wrapper at Interpack 2011 in Düsseldorf. The machine's revolving (Long-Dwell) sealing system allows for longer sealing times compared with traditional rotary cutting heads, which results in air-tight sealed seams. Applicable for a great variety of products, the Pack 301 LD is particularly ideal for fresh, perishable goods where Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) is requested. Also, products packed in thick film such as medical goods can be easily realized. "As consumer focus on product safety intensifies, technologies like the Pack 301 LD for hermetically sealed seams are in demand," said Daniela Thiele, Director Product Management and Marketing, Bosch Packaging Technology. "The machine's longer sealing time and high productivity coupled with several TCO-enhancing (Total Cost of Ownership) benefits meets manufacturer needs for efficiency and quality."

With a sealing time of up to one second, the flow wrapper provides a longer sealing time and provides hermetically sealed seams while ensuring equally high productivity. Thanks to continuous sealing, the Pack 301 LD is able to produce 150 packages per minute. Seal quality is further ensured through a feature that allows temperature to be independently controlled on both the top and bottom sealing jaws. The Pack 301 LD can also offer Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) to increase product shelf life and reduce waste.

The new sealing system automatically detects if products are located between the cross-sealing jaws and ensures that these packages are not sealed and are rejected after the sealing station. This new function eliminates contamination and detects any potential jams on the line, preventing excessive jaw pollution and damage and decreasing the amount of scrapped product.

To allow for simplified maintenance and maximum uptime, the Pack 301 LD has been designed based on the principle of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). The machine has been reduced to a minimum number of parts and is highly operator friendly. Operators, for instance, can change and clean knives without tools and easily exchange the transport belt at the cutting head for rapid cleaning. Format changes and cleaning of crimpers are further simplified by easy jaw alignment.
