New Enhanced PRO-MON™ Offers Load Control, Alarming, Net Metering and Other Advanced Metering Functions

LANGHORNE, PA-January 2, 2003-E-MON, L.P., a MeterSmart company and division of Hunt Power, announces several advanced enhancements to its popular PRO-MON Load Profiling Meter. Designed to provide end users with an even more versatile metering platform to measure a wider range of energy usage requirements, enhancements include kW and kVAR load profiling, alarming and control options, net-metering capability, and a third channel for storing reactive (kVAR) data in its interval data readings.

PRO-MON's built-in Form C relays provide programmable high and low setpoints for the meter's alarm and control functions. A particularly useful feature, PRO-MON can activate a visual or an audible alarm when user-set thresholds have been exceeded. Ramp and dwell times are also user-settable to eliminate nuisance trips caused by momentary overload conditions. The control feature, for example, may be used upon an alarm condition to shut selected equipment down or to start a generator to supplant a portion of the utility supply in order to sustain demand at a lower level.

Ideal for facilities with self-generated power sources, PRO-MON's net metering capability allows users to determine power factor by measuring the amount of energy delivered by the power source (or utility), as well as the amount of excess power (kVAR) returning to the electrical grid. This is an especially valuable feature in areas where utilities give reactive power credits. PRO-MON can even distinguish between supplied and reactive power when the two occur simultaneously. PRO-MON now provides a third data channel to store reactive (kVAR) data in its readings, which may be viewed using the company's popular Windows-based CE-MON Automatic Meter Reading system, either on site or remotely via modem.

Available in a broad selection of standard three-phase delta and wye voltage and current ranges, the PRO-MON meter provides kWh (usage), kW (demand) with peak date and time, real-time load in kW and kVAR; and per phase voltage, kW and amperage display. The meter can store up to 36 days of data collected in 15-minute intervals, or up to 12 days at five-minute intervals.

Standard features include RS-485 communications for serially connecting up to 52 PRO-MON meters via 4-conductor communications network (up to 4000 feet) or via optional 14.4K baud modem. Other communications options include wireless, Internet and Ethernet. External inputs from water, gas, BTU, etc., meters are also supported. PRO-MON is UL listed, CSA certified, and meets or exceeds ANSI C12 National Accuracy Standards. Other features include installed current sensor diagnostic capability, optional cellular modem, and accessories. The meter physically measures 8.0" (H) x 6.0" (W) x 4.0" (D).
