January 13, 2005 - To support molded silicone rubber requirements that would typically exceed those for liquid injection molding (LIM) processing, LIM manufacturer offers shot size of 380 g and platen designs for injection molded gaskets up to 12 x 12 in. or 8 x 20 in. LIM silicone withstands temperatures from -100 to +450F, and cure cycles range from 30–90 sec. Process targets medical diagnostic, analytical instrumentation, communications, navigation, safety, and food processing industries.

Large Shot Liquid Injection Molding of Silicone Rubber Now Available

Philadelphia, Pa. - Stockwell Rubber Company announces the availability of ‘large shot’ liquid injection molding (LIM) to support molded silicone rubber requirements that would typically be considered too large for LIM processing. The company has enhanced shot size to 380 grams, and enhanced its platen designs for injection molded gaskets up to 12” x 12”or 8” x 20”. Industries benefiting from this new capability include high technology industries such as medical diagnostic, analytical instrumentation, communications & navigation, safety and food processing industries. The use of silicone rubber combines the properties of resilience, high temperature stability and inertness as silicone is generally unaffected by temperatures from -100F to 450F. Progress in liquid silicone rubber technology has made faster cures possible, enabling unit cost reductions compared with traditional compression molded gum silicones. LIM silicone cure cycles range from 30 to 90 seconds, depending on the cross section, whereas compression molding typically requires 6 to 8 minute cure cycles. The photo illustrates a 12” by 12” gasket for a telecommunications enclosure and a white silicone seal molded from FDA conforming silicone. Stockwell Rubber Company offers design assistance, and feasibility review. Electronic files should be sent in Autocad dxf, dwg, IGES, or Pro-E format.
