With this launch, Thermo Fisher Scientific now provides researchers with an all-in-one solution for calibrating the linearity of flow cytometers.

This easy-to-use single vial calibrator is a mixture of uniform 3 µm particles with multiple dyes in five different fluorescent intensities. Each intensity level has an MESF (mean equivalent soluble fluorochrome) value for each fluorescent intensity for the multiple channels. Also in the mixture is a blank bead that contains no dye. The biggest advantage to the Cyto-Cal Multifluor Plus Violet Linearity Calibrator is that singlet gating is not required due to the excellent uniformity of the Thermo Scientific beads. Free software is included to use with the results generated by the flow cytometer to check the linearity of the instrument.
The linearity of a flow cytometer provides information about the accuracy of the system, specifically the response of the Photo Multiplier Tubes (PMT) throughout the dynamic voltage range to be used. For this reason, flow cytometers must be calibrated frequently to ensure precision and reliability in order to perform color compensation accurately. This can be done quickly by performing routine checks on linearity by using the Cyto-Cal Multifluor Plus Violet Linearity Calibrator and software.
