May 6, 2011 - Suited for individual and combined use, Linear Variable Filters come in Long-Pass and Short-Pass options. Units have interference coating that is intentionally wedged in one direction, creating linear shift of center wavelength across length of entire substrate. Short-Wave Pass Filter has wavelength range of 330-750 nm with average transmission of 97% from 400-750 nm, while Long-Wave Pass Filter has 300-845 nm wavelength and average transmission of 97% across entire wavelength range.

Linear Variable Filters Ideal for Fluorescence Applications

97% transmission with OD>4 blocking

Barrington, N.J. - Edmund Optics (EO), the premier provider of optical components, introduces its new Linear Variable Filters. These filters are designed for both individual and combined use for maximum versatility and are available in both Long-Pass and Short-Pass Options.

A single filter can replace entire filter set

Linear Variable Filters are manufactured with an interference coating that is intentionally wedged in one direction, creating a linear shift of the center wavelength across the length of the entire substrate. This linear shift allows the broad filtering capabilities that are demonstrated by the Short-Wave and Long-Wave Variable Filters. The two types of filters - Short- and Long-Wave - work inversely to one another. The Short-Wave Variable Filter passes light throughout the filter's length until a blocking band is reached, while the Long-Wave Variable Filter blocks light until a transmission band is reached. These blocking and transmission bands may be adjusted by reorienting the filter to the light source. Using its broad blocking and transmission range, a single linear variable filter can replace an entire filter set, making them extremely economical and saving valuable space.

Filter pairs create Custom Bandpass Filters

Linear Variable Filters allow for blocking and passing of targeted wavelengths. When used independently, the Linear Variable Short-Wave Pass Filter has a wavelength range of 330-750 nm with an excellent average transmission of 97% from 400-750 nm. The Linear Variable Long-Wave Pass Filter has a wavelength range of 300-845 nm and an impressive average transmission of 97% across its entire wavelength range for maximum efficiency. The filters provide blocking of OD>4. When the Short-Pass and Long-Pass Filters are combined, they can operate as a laser-line filter or as a variable bandpass filter with a tunable center wavelength and bandwidth for a vast array of applications.

Combined filters can be used as single variable excitation filter

In order to reduce scattered light and harmonics, combined Long- and Short-Wave Linear Variable Filters may be synchronized with a single moving grade spectrometer. Combined Linear Variable Filters can also be used as a single variable excitation filter for a wide variety of fluorescence applications using white light sources. Linear Variable Filters are in-stock and available for immediate delivery for fast turnaround and excellent value.
