Vubiquity Adds a Slate of New MPEG2 and MPEG4 Channels to Its LiveVU Linear Platform

Linear Digital TV Platform expansion signals a path to the future

LOS ANGELES -- Vubiquity, the largest global provider of multiplatform video services, today announced a long list of additions to its linear channel line-up making it easier for Cable Operators to satisfy consumers' growing desire for more content.   As a result, LiveVU now offers more SD and HD channels than any other platform today. As an integrated, hosted MPEG2/MPEG4 solution, LiveVU helps MVPDs retire aging/end-of-life transcode equipment and serves as a bridge for cable operators transitioning to the more efficient, high-quality MPEG4 codec.

Highlights of the expanded channel line-up include:

--  SD and HD ESPN Longhorn;

--  SD and HD ESPN SEC, both National and Local feeds;

--  HD versions of Ovation, World Fishing Network, Jewelry TV, Nick Jr. (East), and Nicktoons (East);

--  Havoc, available in SD; and

--  New SD and HD west coast feeds of HGTV, Food Network, Travel Channel, Discovery, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery, and Oxygen.

With LiveVU, affiliates can take advantage of a broad range of services available from Vubiquity.  Many are replacing legacy headends with Vubiquity's MPEG2 or MPEG4 feeds, while others transition to a "cap and grow" strategy, moving subscribers to more bandwidth efficient, multiplatform-ready MPEG4.  By providing a transition path between MPEG2 and MPEG4, Vubiquity is easing the friction to free up bandwidth and is ushering in new, advanced video services.

Earlier this year, Vubiquity announced its first MPEG2 SD customer, Americable, which has since provisioned the platform to customers in US military bases around the globe.

In addition to aggregating the broadcast feeds of hundreds of major cable networks, LiveVU includes compelling linear networks which are unavailable on other platforms, as well as revenue-generating services, including SD and HD Pay-Per-View channels, the ShopNow Direct Response Ad Network, and cutting edge digital networks, including Havoc TV and Stingray.   Customers can launch the channels with a simple one-page agreement, enabling monetization opportunities almost immediately.

"We are pleased to see the expanding line-up of linear channels and services from Vubiquity," said David Pratt, Arvig. "Vubiquity's LiveVU service continues to grow and meet our needs.  As an operator that serves both MPEG2 and MPEG4 ecosystems, we're excited with their recent addition of the MPEG2 lineup."

"Our LiveVU solution can help deliver bandwidth and network capacity savings, mitigate the need for costly headend upgrades and STB replacement, and provide the springboard for future monetization services, for MSOs nationwide," said Jim Riley, CRO, Vubiquity. "We are thrilled to be working with Arvig, and hundreds of other services providers with our robust and flexible linear solution, and other next generation services like multiplatform."
