Limiting Amplifier features programmable decision threshold.

Press Release Summary:

Providing solution for WDM systems, SY88353BL Limiting Amplifier is suited for Gigabit Ethernet, 1X and 2X Fibre Channel, and OC-3/STM-1 to OC-48/STM-16 applications. It incorporates pin at which variable dc signal can be applied to adjust output signal crossing from 20-80%. Operating from 3.3 V supply over -40 to +85°C temperature range, input signals with data rates from 155 Mbps to 3.2 Gbps, and as small as 10 mV pp, can be amplified to drive devices with CML or PECL inputs.

Micrel Launches New Limiting Amplifier with Programmable Decision Threshold

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 27 /-- Micrel, Inc. (NASDAQ:MCRL), an industry leader in analog, high-bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, today added to its broad portfolio of post amplifier ICs with the introduction of the SY88353BL. The low power, high-performance, 3.2Gbps limiting amplifier is an optimized solution for Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) systems and is also ideally suited for Gigabit Ethernet, 1X and 2X Fibre Channel, and OC-3/STM-1 through OC-48/STM-16 applications. The SY88353BL is currently available in volume with pricing starting at $3.13 for 10K quantities.

"This product will solve a lot of issues for our customers where duty cycle distortion and DC offsets must be addressed," said Thomas S. Wong, vice president high bandwidth products for Micrel. "Furthermore, Micrel's limiting amplifier has a programmable decision threshold that enhances bit error rate performance, another important consideration in the growing networking space."

The SY88353BL limiting post amplifier provides a unique pin at which a variable DC signal can be applied to adjust output signal crossing from 20 to 80 percent. This feature eliminates input DC offsets in DC-coupled applications, minimizes jitter caused by duty cycle distortion and ultimately, optimizes bit error rate (BER) performance. The SY88353BL operates from a single 3.3V power supply, over temperatures ranging from -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C. Input signals with data rates from 155Mbps up to 3.2Gbps and as small as 10mV pp, can be amplified to drive devices with CML or PECL inputs. The device offers fast loss-of-signal (LOS) release/assert time, low-noise CML data outputs, and chatter-free Open-Collector TTL LOS feature. This IC is available in a tiny 3mm x 3mm MLF® package.
