Panopto Releases Next Generation Lecture Capture Platform CourseCast(TM) 2.0, Delivering Enhanced Recording, Publishing and Search Capabilities
PITTSBURGH, Aug. 6 -- Panopto, Inc. announced today the general availability of the latest version of the CourseCast lecture capture software.
Created for educational institutions and corporate training departments, CourseCast 2.0 introduces several significant new features, including course- wide search, podcasting, access to remote recorders, a Blackboard Building Block(R), and a simplified recording and publishing workflow. New features were prioritized based on feedback from customers participating in the Socrates Project, a program that provides free CourseCast software to academic institutions in exchange for product feedback and marketing support.
In addition to recording video, audio, and presentation materials, users can now choose to record multiple video streams, or create audio-only presentations. Lecturers and students can also search across multiple presentations simultaneously for keywords in PowerPoint(R) slides and student notes. CourseCast 2.0 automatically discovers any devices connected to each recording laptop, desktop, or smartroom system, greatly simplifying the start- up and session recording process. The software also automatically generates multiple playable formats, such as Microsoft's Windows Media, Silverlight and podcasts, further streamlining media distribution.
Jeff Muday, Director of Instructional Technology at Wake Forest University, a CourseCast 2.0 beta program participant commented: "We began testing CourseCast 2.0 in a fairly limited scope and within weeks expanded the use of the product among faculty and staff. Key to this was the product's extraordinarily simple set-up and intuitive user interface. Instructors were recording sessions on their own with only a brief amount of training."
"CourseCast is proving to be a very useful platform for us to quickly and reliably capture course content for students and staff throughout our school district. We are in the beginning stages of using the system, but its ease of use and flexibility make it a natural solution for us," remarked Bill Connaghan, Technology Services Coordinator at Cornwall-Lebanon School District.
Eric Burns, Panopto's Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, said, "CourseCast 2.0 represents a huge step forward in knowledge capture usability. Panopto's platform makes it easy for everyone from end-users to IT departments to capture and distribute rich content, whether it's a few hours a week or a few thousand. It is the direct product of feedback and feature requests from Socrates participants, and we're excited to see it come to market."
