November 14, 2008 - Designed to meet airborne surveying requirements, VQ-480 performs simultaneous collection of laser scan data as well as position and attitude data from IMU/GPS. Non-contact DAQ is performed via narrow IR laser beam and line scanning mechanism, and scanner outputs set of 3D coordinates (point cloud). Requiring only one power supply, scanner offers multiple target capacity and delivers accuracy based on echo digitization and online waveform analysis.

Riegl's VQ-480: Introducing Industry Leading Speed and Compact Size for Airborne Mapping

Riegl's VQ-480: Introducing industry leading speed and compact size for airborne mapping

Airborne laser scanning is a rapid, highly accurate and efficient method of capturing 3D data of large areas, such as agricultural or forestry sites, urban areas, industrial plants, etc. Riegl airborne laser scanners make use of the latest state-of-the-art laser and signal processing technology. They are exceptionally compact, lightweight and cost effective. They are designed to meet the most challenging requirements in airborne surveying.

Basic tasks of the measurement laser system include simultaneous collection of laser scan data and position and attitude data from the IMU/GPS. Also, output as a set of three dimensional coordinates usually referred to as a point cloud.

The new VQ-480
The VQ-480, which Riegl recently unveiled as part of its V-Line, provides high speed non-contact data acquisition using a narrow infrared laser beam and a fast line scanning mechanism. The High accuracy laser range is based on Riegl's unique echo digitization and online waveform analysis. With this technology it is no longer necessary for users to choose between great data and efficient scan rates.

Full waveform lidar signal processing- the power to discover Riegl's full waveform occurs in real time and allows the user to acquire data in much deeper detail than previously possible. The multiple target capacity of the VQ-480 results in more returns which ultimately yields a more complete analysis. The power to discover with full waveform analysis has resulted in significant archeological developments.

"The introduction of the VQ-480 answers the marketplace demands for future looking systems in its compact and lightweight form factor combined with industry leading accuracy reliability and speed," states James Van Rens Vice President of Riegl USA.

A flexible product design
The scanner is designed for easy mounting in any orientation, even under limited space conditions on helicopters or UAVs. The scanner needs only one power supply and provides line scan data via the integrated LAN-TCP/IP interface. It was designed to be rugged, lightweight and compact with durability in mind.

Riegl's 3D terrestrial laser scanner business is based upon the company's 30 year heritage in research, development and manufacture of time-of-flight based optical radar systems. Our products are used for ground based and airborne survey, industrial process control, altimetry and aerospace applications.
