New Ultrafast Laser System Delivers Terawatt and kHz Performance

o Spectra-Physics® Unison(TM) amplifier's dual outputs power multiple simultaneous applications

Mountain View, CA - June 11, 2009 - Newport Corporation's Spectra-Physics® Lasers Division introduces the first ultrafast amplifier system with optimized dual outputs for simultaneous high-energy and time-resolved experiments. The Unison amplifier is a single system that delivers femtosecond pulses at both terawatt-class intensities at 10 Hz frequency and mJ energies in the kHz frequency regime. The entire system is manufactured by Spectra-Physics, ensuring compatibility and a single point of contact for service and support.

Newport's new Unison amplifier system features excellent pulse energy stability and TEM00 spatial mode for high quality experimental results. The system's modular design provides a versatile system that can be easily configured for user-specific requirements. Existing Newport Spitfire® ultrafast amplifier systems can also be upgraded to Unison amplifier systems.

"Our Unison amplifier system builds upon Spectra-Physics' proven leadership in ultrafast amplifiers and high-energy Nd:YAG lasers," says Herman Chui, Senior Director of Product Marketing for Newport's Spectra-Physics Lasers Division. "The unprecedented breadth of capabilities enables applications ranging from high-energy VUV spectroscopy, higher order harmonic generation, and multi-photon and above-threshold ionization to standard time-resolved spectroscopy experiments such as pump-probe, coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS), and THz generation."

The Unison ultrafast amplifier system will be on display at Laser World of Photonics, June 15-18, 2009 in Munich, Germany at Newport's booth # 101 in Hall C1. For more information on the Unison ultrafast amplifier, please visit www.newport.com/unison.
