H.B. Fuller Launches Next Generation Flextra Fast(TM) Laminating Adhesive at PACK EXPO 2011

ST. PAUL, Minn., -- H.B. Fuller Company (NYSE: FUL) is introducing the next generation of its Flextra Fast(TM) flexible packaging adhesives at this year's PACK EXPO trade show at the Las Vegas Convention Center September 26-28. H.B. Fuller's exhibition will focus on a new wave of innovative flexible packaging laminating adhesives that address emerging industry challenges such as fast curing flexible packaging and the need for sustainable packaging solutions.

Start to Finish in as Few as Two Days

The next generation of H.B. Fuller's Flextra Fast((TM)) solventless laminating system is Flextra Fast(TM) SFA 8600 / XR 1500 adhesive--one of the fastest curing in the industry. New Flextra Fast adhesive allows converters to:

-- Laminate as fast as 1,700 feet per minute

-- Slit in as few as three hours

-- Provide PAA decay in as little as one day

-- Fill and ship with finished goods/food in as few as 2 days

"Our converting customers told us they need to move from raw material to finished product more quickly," said Brian Glasbrenner, North American sales manager, flexible packaging at H.B. Fuller. "Given our focus on developing innovative solutions to address our customers' needs, we developed this new technology that not only allows converters to begin secondary processing in a matter of hours but also ensures PAA decay so that the laminates can be safely filled in a very short time."

This next generation Flextra Fast laminating adhesive system is designed for high performance processes ranging from snack pouches to difficult boil-in-bag applications. Its unique formulation delivers excellent appearance and adhesion to many substrates such as foil, nylon and high slip sealants.

Putting Formulation Innovation to the Test

To develop Flextra Fast SFA 8600 / XR 1500, H.B. Fuller employed a newer, more precise method for detecting PAA to give its converting customers higher assurance of food safety. Using the more stringent High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method, H.B. Fuller developed this laminating adhesive that is ready for secondary processing in a matter of hours and safe to fill on even the toughest substrates, such as nylon, in as little as two days.

Along with the complete line of Flextra formulations, Flextra Fast SFA 8600 / XR 1500 can be put to the test on H.B. Fuller's full production-scale Nordmeccanica® Super Combi 3000 laminator installed at its pilot facility in St. Paul, Minn. The Nordmeccanica laminator can run trials of solvent-based, solvent-free and water-based laminating adhesives, offers primary and secondary in-line corona treatment and produces cured laminated rolls as wide as 52 inches.
