Laboratory Pellet Press provides sample preparation.

January 24, 2006 - With max pressure of 25 tons, manual hydraulic Model PP 25 is suited for preparation of solid samples for x-ray fluorescence and spectral analysis. Dies are available in diameters of 32 and 40 mm. Due to polished pressure plates, surface of dies is prepared to meet requirements of XRF analysis. Materials such as limestone, which do not form stable pellet even under pressure, can be stabilized with help of aluminum beaker.

Pellet Press for High-Quality Tablets

RETSCH has added a pellet press to its extensive range of products for sample preparation. The manual hydraulic Pellet Press PP 25 is a compact laboratory instrument with particularly simple and safe operation. Its maximum pressure of 25 tons makes it ideal for the preparation of solid samples for X-ray fluorescence and spectral analysis.

The dies for the pellet press are available with diameters of 32 and 40 mm which are the most common sizes of tablets used for XRF. The pellets produced are of extremely good quality and are characterized by their high degree of stability. Due to the polished pressure plates, their surface is ideally prepared for the requirements of XRF analysis. Materials such as limestone, which do not form a stable pellet even under pressure, can be stabilized with the help of an aluminium beaker. Their low thickness provides for excellent pelletizing qualities. They are easy to use, label and store.

In some cases, the granular properties of the material or the calibration method do not allow the use of aluminium beakers. These samples are homogenized with binders in order to form a stable pellet. Various types of binders and wax are available. Samples which are prepared for XRF analysis should have a fineness of < 40 µm. This can be achieved by grinding the sample in a mixer mill such as the MM 301 or a disc mill such as the RS 100 from RETSCH.

Retsch is a global company dedicated to providing novel technologies and high quality tools for the sample preparation of solids used in R&D and QA applications as well as small scale production.
