Union Process Develops Lab Attritor for Limestone Grinding

Akron, OH. . .Union Process recently built a lab machine for its limestone and mineral grinding line. The CL-5 is the smallest member of the CL Series Stirred Vertical Ball Mills.

The CL-5 is appropriate for research, scale-up studies and small-scale production. Primary applications are for wet grinding limestone for flue gas desulphurization in power plants and for mineral grinding.

Whereas CL Series production Attritors provide large, continuous production with throughputs in the tons per hour, the CL-5 Lab Attritor will process in the range of 200-500 pounds of limestone per hour. The mill is equipped with a variable frequency drive (VFD) and a 15 horsepower inverter duty motor. The CL-5 uses 2.5 gallons of grinding media.

CL Attritors are top fed with the product (approximately 6mm in size) and water entering through the top of the mill where they are propelled down into the media bed. Final product exits through the top side of the mill.

Union Process is the inventor and developer of Attritor technology and manufactures wet and dry grinding mills as well as small media mills.

Attritor is a registered trademark of Union Process, Inc.
