September 30, 2003 - Series BBP/BBT 3/8 in. probes provide measurement of dimensions and can replace mechanical and digital dial gages. BBP models are plain, while BBT models are threaded. Gage heads combine AC-LVDT with linear ball bearing assembly, resulting in 0.000006 in. repeatability. Standard ranges include ±0.040, ±0.100, and ±0.200 in. Positive stops prevent mechanical damage from overstroking, and rubber bellows covering shaft prevent entrance of contaminants into bearing.

Macro Sensors Offers Ultra-Precision LVDT Gaging Probes For Q.C., SPC and Industrial Metrology Applications

LVDT Gaging Probes Serve as More Precise Substitutes for Mechanical Dial Position Indicators

Pennsauken, NJ, September 26, 2003…Macro Sensors’ offers the BBP/BBT family of 3/8” pencil type gaging probes for ultra-precise measurement of dimensions in a wide variety of quality control, inspection equipment and industrial metrology applications including online parts inspection, servo-loop positioning systems, and manufacturing process control.

These AC-operated LVDT gage heads measure the position of a target surface, with an unusually high degree of accuracy. Complete systems for “go/no/go” inspection of complex mechanical parts can be assembled using several gage heads mounted in suitable fixtures. The BBP/BBT position probes may be used as direct replacements for mechanical and digital dial gages as they provide superior resolution and repeatability.

The BBP/BBT gage heads combine a special AC-LVDT with a linear ball bearing assembly to reduce radial play and core skewing, resulting in exceptional repeatability of 0.000006 inch (0.15 microns). The use of an LVDT for probe shaft displacement sensing eliminates any additional transducer errors due to friction, stiction or mechanical hysteresis. LVDT gaging probes also offer unusually long life of 2 x 108 cycles. Other notable features of the BBP/BBT series include:

• User-adjustable pretravel;

• Reduced susceptibility to temperature changes;

• Positive stops prevent mechanical damage to the probe from repeated overstroking;

• Rubber bellows covering the probe shaft prevent the entrance of contaminants into the bearing.

The BBP/BBT units are available in three standard ranges: ±0.040” (±1.0 mm), ±0.100” (±2.5 mm) and ±0.200” (±5.0mm). BBP gaging probes are available in a 3/8” diameter plain housing, while BBT versions have a 3/8” diameter housing that is partially threaded with industry standard 3/8-40 UNS thread. BBP units are also available in shorter ranges of ±0.01” (±0.25 mm) and ±0.02” (±0.5mm) or in standard ranges configured for air-extend, spring-retract operations in automatic gaging systems. Each probe is supplied with a replaceable end piece that converts the axial cable exit to a radial cable exit to minimize the installed length in space-critical applications.

Macro Sensors manufactures a full line of support electronics for these LVDTS including OEM modules, DIN-rail mount line-powered and DC-operated signal conditioners and digital display and control instruments. By combining its support electronics with gaging probes, Macro Sensors offers complete gaging systems for use to record data electronically or to gather statistical quality control information on manufactured parts.

Pricing for the BBP/BBT series start at $360 - $450, depending upon range and quantities. For price and delivery information, please contact Eileen Ellis at 856-662-8000/email: sales@macrosensors.com or visit our web site at www.macrosensors.com.
