July 6, 2004 - Concave Cylindrical 5 mm Discrete LEDs emit light that is as bright at edges as it is in center. Concave lenses spread out collimated beam of light, producing illumination that is visible in direct sunlight. Provided with sturdy leads for wire wrap applications, products are available in 6 colors. Each employs solid-state design that renders product impervious to electrical and mechanical shock, vibration, frequent switching, and environmental extremes.

New Concave LEDs Answer the Need for Light Beams of Even Brightness Throughout

TORRANCE, CA - June 18, 2004 - LEDtronics® announces Concave Cylindrical 5mm (T1-3/4) Discrete LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) that emit light that is as bright at its edges as it is in the center. Concave lenses improve the quality of the light beam by spreading out the collimated beam of light that LEDs typically emit. These high-intensity LEDs produce illumination that is bright even in direct sunlight, making them excellent sources of illumination for applications such as backlighting, medical equipment and channel-letter illumination. Sturdy leads are provided for wire wrap applications. Select from six sunlight-visible colors: Green (525nm and 568nm), Cool White (8000K), Blue (461nm), Yellow (596nm and 585nm), Red (655nm, 660nm and 630nm) and Orange (606nm).

Solid-state design renders LEDs impervious to electrical and mechanical shock, vibration, frequent switching and environmental extremes. With an average life span of 100,000 plus hours (11 years), LEDs operate reliably year after year and are appropriate for many applications. They can be used as individual pixels in a large dot matrix screen, full color screens, moving signs and displays. More diverse applications for LEDs include light sources for scanners used in color copiers, spectral analysis, high-speed document reading and color synthesis. Other applications include medical imaging and biomedical instrumentation, telecommunications equipment, machine vision systems, and color recognition and calibration systems - any application that requires a bright, reliable LED.

Founded in 1983, LEDtronics® leads where others only follow when it comes to designing, manufacturing and packaging state-of-the-art LEDs to meet the world's constantly changing lighting needs. Our inventive product line encompasses an array of direct incandescent lamp replacement Based LEDs, low-cost snap-in and relampable Panel Mount LEDs, high intensity sunlight-visible Discrete LEDs, PCB LEDs circuit board status indicators, surface mount diodes SMT LEDs, full-spectrum rainbow RGB LEDs, and Infra-Red (IR) LEDs.

Prices for 5mm (T1-3/4) Concave Cylindrical Discrete LEDs range from $0.17 - $0.74 each in quantities of 1,000 depending on the LED technology and color. Availability is stock to 4 - 6 weeks for special requirements. Samples are available for qualified customers.
