Micrel Addresses Growing Communications and Base Station Markets with Introduction of New 5A Low Voltage Single Supply LDO Regulator
SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 20 / -- Micrel, Inc. (NASDAQ:MCRL), an industry leader in analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, today announced the immediate availability of the MIC69502, a 5A Low Voltage Single Supply LDO regulator. The IC is ideal for supporting the voltage supply requirements of current and future FPGAs, microcontrollers and other logic ICs in applications such as optical networks, communication switches, storage networks, wireless base stations and home entertainment systems. The MIC69502 is currently available in volume and pricing starts at $3.55 for 1K quantities.
"As next generation DSPs, FPGAs and ASICs migrate from 90nm to 65nm processes, supply voltage requirements decrease while current requirements increase," noted Ralf Muenster, Micrel's director of marketing for power products. "Micrel's new MIC69502 fulfills the need for a single input regulator that can support these newer lower voltage requirements. With a 0.5V reference and an output voltage accuracy over line load and temperature of 2 percent, Micrel's MIC69502 also anticipates designers' needs for output voltages of less than 0.8V in the future."
Micrel's MIC69502 features a single supply input range of 1.65 to 5.5V in support of a 5A output current. The compact IC offers very low minimum output voltage of just 0.5V and comes in a SPAK-7 package option. The IC provides excellent transient response and is stable with a 10µF ceramic output capacitor. With minimal component count, 500mV maximum dropout at 5A over temperature, and a low minimum input voltage, the device gives designers increased flexibility due to the small amount of real estate required and reduced power dissipation.
