Non-Invasive, Non-Marring Moisture Meter Offers Wider Measurement Range, Backlit Display

Ideal for Woodworking, Building & Construction, Flooring Applications

(New York, NY) The new Non-Penetrating LCD Moisture Meter with Tricolor Bar Graph (MMD7NP) from General Tools & Instruments (General®) offers professionals, DIYers and hobbyists a powerful instrument at a best in class value. When compared with similar moisture meters on the market, the MMD7NP is far more affordable than nearly all of its competitors and, unlike its closest price competitor, the unit features a backlit display and delivers a wider measurement range, deeper measurement depth and finer material definition.

The MMD7NP is ideal for measuring the moisture content of wood, and even differentiates between hardwood and softwood. This is helpful for selecting dry timber at the lumberyard as well as checking the moisture level of wood in the workshop or in the field. The MMD7NP can also be used for measuring the moisture content of drywall, masonry or concrete; detecting moisture below the surface of carpets and subflooring; and locating water leaks above ceilings, below floors or behind walls. It has a maximum sensing depth of 3/4 in. (20mm). As a pinless model, the instrument acquires readings via a non-invasive method, which means it will not mar wood or other materials, a paramount concern when trying to detect moisture under a finished surface.

Two buttons on the front of the MMD7NP provide a convenient way to switch the measurement mode to match the material (i.e., hardwood, softwood, drywall or masonry). The name of the selected material appears on the 2-in. backlit LCD along with the moisture level reading as a percentage. Below the LCD, a bank of colored LEDs roughly mirrors the digital reading in bar graph format, with green indicating "dry," red indicating "wet" and yellow indicating an intermediate moisture level. An audible out-of-range alarm sounds whenever wood is found to have a moisture content above 18% WME (above 70% for drywall and masonry). The MMD7NP has a measurement range of 0 to 53% WME for hardwood and 0 to 35% WME for softwood with an accuracy of +/-4%. Although the LCD shows the moisture content of drywall and masonry as WME readings, these are actually relative readings useful for comparing the moisture levels of different materials or of different areas of the same material.

See General's Non-Penetrating LCD Moisture Meter with Tricolor Bar Graph (MMD7NP) at Booth 4556 at IWF 2012, August 22-25 at the Georgia World Conference Center in Atlanta.
The instrument will be on display and available for order.
