Thomas & Betts Steel City® 4 Inch Square Old Work Box Features Pre-Mounted Swing Ears to Secure Box Quickly
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Nov. 7, 2005 - Thomas & Betts offers another timesaving product with the introduction of the Steel City® 4" Square Old Work Box with Swing Ears (part number 52171 OW). The swing ears are pre-mounted to the box, eliminating the need for on-site assembly, and allowing a faster and more secure installation. The boxes can be used on walls up to 3/4-inch thick.
Swing ear technology currently works well in the industry and now is offered on a four-inch square box from Steel City. The 4" Square Old Work Box with Swing Ears enables the contractor to secure the installation quickly by turning the swing ears upward to grip the backing of the wall. The swing ear mechanism turns easily with pan-head self-tapping screws on the mechanism that feature a combination slotted/Phillips drive.
"The 4" Square Old Work Box with Swing Ears is designed for applications in which the contractor is working with existing sheetrock or drywall," said Joe Pede, product manager with Thomas & Betts' Construction Products Group. "If a four-inch square box is needed for retrofit or replacement applications, the contractor can install the box without having to assemble the ears. The pre-mounted ears save a considerable amount of time in installing old-work boxes.
"These boxes are particularly useful for retrofit applications, such as installing new fire alarms in a school building, or any other type of project that does not involve new construction."
