ITT Develops Junction Box Assemblies for Mass Transit Applications

SANTA ANA, Calif. - March 12, 2008 - ITT Interconnect Solutions, a leading global
manufacturer and supplier of connectors, interconnects, and cable assemblies, has developed a junction box assembly solution for mass transit applications. ITT's VEAM junction box
contains a complete harnessing system, including terminal blocks, cables and electrical
components for inter-vehicle connections as well as power and signal connections.
"Whether it is a single connector or a fully integrated junction box, we are able to provide our
customers with a custom interconnect solution that integrates directly into their mass transit
designs," said Keith Teichmann, director of marketing for ITT Interconnect Solutions. "Our
VEAM interconnects are also available in a wide range of shell sizes and contact arrangements
for integrating power and signal connections, and are suitable for either standard or harsh
environments."
The junction box and its components are ideal for control switchboard connections between
vehicles, tilting systems, CCTV equipment, inter-vehicle connections, power and signal
connections, and motor supplies up to 660A.
VEAM's junction boxes are approved to IP66 standards. Power and signal contacts on the
components are rated to 400A, and the complete systems are tested to electrical, shock and
vibration specifications.
While all VEAM junction boxes are custom, typical pricing ranges from approximately $300 to
$500 each in quantities of 250 pieces. Lead time is from 8 to 12 weeks.
