JPS Communications Announces the ACU-M

RALEIGH, N.C., (May 15, 2006) - Raytheon's JPS Communications, the industry leader in interoperability technology, announces the new ACU-M. The ACU-M is a miniature interoperability device built on the proven ACU technology. The device has an intuitive control panel for operation, field diagnostics, and programming. Weighing less than 3 pounds, the ACU-M is easily deployed and affordably priced, making it ideal for mission-critical interoperability.

The ACU-M provides interoperability between its four audio ports (for radios or other devices), two voice over internet protocol (VoIP) channels, and a headset port. The unit is equipped with a comprehensive suite of digital signal processing (DSP) functions that allow it to competently interconnect radios in any band including HF, VHF, UHF, P25, 800 MHz and Nextel iDEN phones. The DSP function is notably absent from competitive counterparts. An Ethernet port provides access to a network for the VoIP channels and is also used for remote control and feature and firmware upgrades.

The product features self-testing diagnostic capabilities and an internal library of pre-configured radio templates that minimize setup time. Among the unit's control features are the ability to monitor any or all of the interface ports and to instantly switch to any of a number of pre-stored configurations, including the system configuration that existed just before the last power-down. A variety of status indicators enable competent operation and assist system troubleshooting.

The enclosure design of the ACU-M offers maximum portability and flexibility to meet the demands of establishing command and control in the field. The unit can be powered by a battery, vehicle +12V outlet, or AC power supply provided. It can be installed in a vehicle, rack, or Pelican case. Its water resistant control panel with integrated keys and displays ensures easy programming and field diagnostics.

The ACU-M can be controlled locally by its intuitive control panel, speaker, and headset or remotely via its serial or Ethernet ports. Included with each ACU-M is the proven ACU Controller software for control of an individual ACU-M via a CAT-5 cable or over a network. The unit can be purchased with the network connectivity option or this feature can be installed as a field upgrade via the Ethernet port. ACU-Ms with this option can form cross-connections over a network to operators or radios at other ACU-Ms or at ACU-1000 systems. These systems can be managed with the JPS Wide Area Interoperability System (WAIS) Controller software. WAIS Controller operators at one or more control centers can monitor and control a multiple-ACU system, easily making or dissolving both local and networked communication nets.

"The ACU-M meets the increasingly high demand for a low cost, high functionality interoperability device," states Steve Rahn, director of United States sales for JPS Communications. "The ACU-M offers significantly higher functionality per dollar than the competition and includes DSP conditioning that is absent from comparable products. The unit's ability to be network enabled provides our customers an unparalleled option for wide area connectivity and control which is essential in mission critical applications."
