Agilent Technologies' New Extendable Optical Amplifier Test System Platform to Further Address Low-Cost Metro Applications

Agilent's Platform is Only One That Tests All Optical Amplifiers on the Market

ATLANTA, OFC 2003, March 24, 2003 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced a fully integrated test system for optical amplifier (OA) manufacturers. The Agilent E2158A is the second system in Agilent's optical amplifier test solution family, providing highly accurate measurements on an open, extendable platform that can be customized to meet user-specific needs.

The E2158A is the only optical amplifier platform on the market that can test all optical amplifiers, and includes the latest in measurements of transient and PDG for the metro market. The platform enables low system cost, test throughput optimization and low-cost support of OA technologies, including semiconductor optical amplifiers and Erbium-doped waveguide amplifiers.

The E2158A offers the additional test methodology of time domain extinction (TDE). In addition, the E2158A provides tests for the metro market, including transient and polarization dependent gain (PDG). OA manufacturers can configure the E2158A with just enough test capabilities for budget-sensitive applications, and can easily upgrade the system to meet new OA test requirements. Users can work within a familiar software environment to easily change device test sequences, allowing manufacturers to remain cost-competitive while responding quickly to new technological and market requirements.

The Agilent E2158A optical amplifier test system offers several benefits, including the following:

o reduced cost of test -- one system tests all OA technology devices;

o versatility -- Agilent offers a large variety of upgrades;

o scalability and investment protection -- users can purchase a minimum amount of test equipment and upgrade as necessary; and

o flexibility -- users can easily customize the system within an open software environment.

U.S. Pricing and Availability
