Visteon Launches First-to-Market Reconfigurable Instrument Cluster with Illuminated Mechanical Gauge Rings

Global instrument cluster debuts on Lincoln MKZ in North America

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich., -- Global automotive supplier Visteon Corporation (NYSE: VC) recently launched its first-to-market reconfigurable instrument cluster with illuminated mechanical gauge rings on the 2013 Lincoln MKZ in North America. The MKZ is expected to reach Lincoln dealers later this year.

The new instrument cluster incorporates a 10.1-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) display that is fully reconfigurable and includes illuminated mechanical gauge ring overlays to enhance its styling and appeal. The instrument cluster's industry-leading 24-bit color depth delivers improved image reproduction. Compared with a typical instrument cluster, Visteon's reconfigurable product uses significantly fewer parts and contains all circuitry on a single printed wire board - decreasing manufacturing complexity and improving cost-effectiveness and design robustness.

Visteon's reconfigurable instrument cluster allows vehicle manufacturers to uniquely brand and style the product for multiple vehicle trim levels and programs, using the same hardware. Because the most significant changes relate to software, considerable engineering and tooling savings can be realized.

The Lincoln MKZ is the first vehicle on this global platform to showcase Visteon's reconfigurable cluster with illuminated mechanical gauge rings. Visteon is manufacturing the cluster at its award-winning Carolinas Plant in Mexico.

"We capitalized on our experience from our first-generation reconfigurable instrument cluster, launched in 2010 to design a cluster for a smaller package space, while improving its capabilities and styling," said Steve Meszaros, Visteon product group president. "Our reconfigurable instrument clusters are setting the trend for global platforms and vehicles focused on design."
