Rubber Industries Expands Manufacturing Capabilities With a Major Expansion Into Liquid Injection Molding

Shakopee, Minnesota: Rubber Industries announced today a major expansion of its capabilities to include liquid injection molding (LIM) as part of its vast rubber contract manufacturing services.

“The expansion includes state-of-the-art liquid injection molding equipment and processes”, according to Bruce Nelson, sales manager for Rubber Industries, who made the announcement.

“The addition of these liquid injection molding capabilities include Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) process technology for both clear and colored silicone parts, which will provide an expanded option to our current customers and to new prospects,” according to Nelson.

Rubber Industries will utilize 24 ton Boy Presses, which can handle mold sizes of 10”x12” and a maximum shot size of 65 grams. The molding systems utilize a modular mold base system which is set up to receive cavity blocks of 4”x4”, 6”x6”, and 8”x8” sizes. This allows customers a substantial savings because they only purchase the cavity block and not the entire mold.

LSR is a proprietary name for a range of two-component liquid silicone rubbers used to produce elastic parts by injection molding. Because of its high thermal stability, good rubber-like properties, and resistance to aging, LSR is the material of choice by many designers in automotive, electronics, appliance, medical and textile industries. The material has a wide temperature range (-94 degrees F to +400 degrees F) with low compression set and resistance to the damaging effects of sunlight and ozone. Typical LSR designed components include seals, insulators, diffusers, valves, gaskets and bellows, to name just a few.

Nelson reported that Rubber Industries will operate its specialized LIM/LSR facilities within a dedicated, clean environment in order to appeal to the clean manufacturing requirements of various customers, including medical device manufacturers of non-implantable, custom molded parts and assemblies. “We will be more competitive than other molders because we have less overhead of sophisticated class 1000 clean room facilities”. Many LSR components do not require the extreme cleanliness of an implantable medical component, therefore, Rubber Industries will be filling that type of need.

Rubber Industries provides mold design and manufacture, complete in-house cryogenic de-flashing capabilities, large volume production and component assembly and packaging. The company also provides engineering assistance for product design and development. Rubber Industries has a 35-year successful track record in the custom rubber molding business serving leading OEM manufacturers throughout the United States. Rubber Industries is an ISO 9001:2000 certified supplier.
