October 12, 2005 - Digital, fiber optic Models MI-S5 LO and MI-GA 5 LO are designed for ambient temperatures up to 250°C and areas where EMI can influence accurate measurement. Model MI-S5 LO features silicon IR-detector and wavelength of 0.8-1.1 µm, while Model MI-GA 5 LO has longer wavelength of 1.45-1.8 µm for lower temperatures. Using various optical heads, units measure temperature from 300-2,500°C with response time of 2 ms.

Highly Accurate, Digital Fiber Optic Infrared Pyrometers

Mikron Infrared, Inc. has added 2 new models to its line of digital, fiber optic infrared pyrometers for non-contact temperature measurement. The MI-S5 LO and the MI-GA 5 LO are specially designed for harsh environments such as high ambient temperatures (up to 250°C) or areas where electromagnetic interference can influence accurate measurement.

The MI-S5 LO with a silicon IR-detector has a very short (0.8 to l.lµm) wavelength. The MI-GA 5 LO measures lower temperatures since it has a slightly longer wavelength of 1.45 to l.8µm. With a selection of optical heads, both instruments can be customized for specific applications. These optical heads measure very small spot size, and with a very short response time of 2ms, even the fastest heating processes can be measured.

These instruments measure temperature between 300°C and 2500°C and feature analog and digital outputs. Typical applications include: Induction heating, welding, casting, forging, annealing, sintering, rolling mill, rotary kilns, pouring stream.
