Cognex Launches Industrial Vision System with the World's Fastest Acquisition Speed

NATICK, MA - Cognex Launches Industrial Vision System with the World's Fastest Acquisition Speed Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ: CGNX), the world's leading supplier of machine vision systems, introduces the In-Sight® 500. With the fastest acquisition speed of any industrial vision system, the In-Sight 500 can inspect parts on the very fastest production lines.

The In-Sight 500 vision system is a high-performance, fixed-mount vision system packaged in a rugged, IP65-rated housing. It is powered by a proprietary vision chip technology, Cognex VSoC(TM) (Vision System on a Chip), which enables the system to process images at up to 500 frames per second (fps) with windowed acquisition.

High-speed, simple vision inspection

In addition to the standard In-Sight programming interface, expansive tool set and communication methods, the In-Sight 500 vision system achieves speeds of 100fps at the full 1024 x 768 pixels of resolution and 200fps at 640 x 480. What's more, In-Sight 500 provides the ability to further window an acquired image which can accelerate the acquisition to as high as 500fps.

"The speed and simplicity offered by the In-Sight 500 represent a great leap forward in vision inspection technology," said Bhaskar Banerjee, Business Unit Manager, Vision Systems. "With this high-speed vision system, manufacturers can now carry out straightforward inspection tasks much faster than ever before."

Inspection using blobs, histogram, edges at higher acquisition speeds

In-Sight 500 can acquire images while simultaneously processing applications at 500fps. Its fast acquisition speed and powerful processor make this vision system ideal for applications requiring relatively simple inspection applications. The full suite of In-Sight tools and communication methods is available with In-Sight 500, including Cognex Connect(TM) which supports EtherNet/IP and PROFINET, among other communication protocols.

"In-Sight 500 is ideal for users requiring sub-7 millisecond cycle time," commented Banerjee. "This equates to approximate speeds of 200-300fps. Users that need simple inspections using blob, edge and histogram to perform their vision applications now have a system that can reach high acquisition speeds that no other vision system can achieve."

There is an acute need for this level of performance among global manufacturers, particularly in the medical device, packaging and pharmaceutical industries where the programming interface, extensive tool set and communication of the In-Sight 500 can be used very effectively.

In-Sight 500 is available now. For more information, go to http://www.cognex.com/IS500.
