V Panel: Kontron's New Panel PC With CANopen, CAN, DeviceNet or Profibus

Cost-effective field bus connection for fanless HMI

Houston, October 17, 2006 -Today at the opening of the Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society's Expo in Houston, Kontron introduced the Kontron V Panel, a fanless, high-performance, in-panel format Human Machine Interface system. The Kontron V Panel offers connections for CANopen, CAN, DeviceNet or Profibus directly on board for a cost-effective connection of the most common field buses.

The core computer of the modular Kontron V Panel is based on Kontron's technology. This enables scalable CPU performance up to Intel® Pentium® M 1.1GHz to deliver high performance with low power consumption and favorable thermal characteristics. An innovative, integrated cooling design allows passive, fanless cooling with maximum processor performance. Display dimensions from 10.4- to 19-inches are available. In addition, up to 112 freely programmable function buttons and 16 special buttons can be integrated into the display frame, depending on the display size. The system is also available in a stainless steel version.

A variety of interface options, such as four serial ports, three USB ports (front and rear), 2 x PS/2, 1 x LPT, plus LAN 10/100 and LAN 100/1000 Base-TX, make it easy to adapt the systems to customer requirements. Two free PCI slots and an optional PCMCIA slot are available for expansion. An integrated watchdog and power management functions complete the package. The 100 percent industrial-grade HMI has a maximum RAM of 1024MB and Compact Flash up to 2GB; and can optionally be equipped with a hard drive.

Windows XP, Windows XP Embedded, as well as Linux and Embedded Linux operating systems are supported.

The Kontron V Panel Series systems are thin-client or stand-alone, compact, high performance HMIs for demanding industrial applications. Optimal shock, vibration and temperature resistance, as well as increased resistance to EMC conditions are standard. In addition, Kontron guarantees long-term availability for a minimum of five years.
