T.M. Smith Tool International Corporation Introduces New Versatile Tabletop Induction-Heating Machine for Shrink Fit Tool Holder

Shrink Fit tool holders are becoming the preferred choice in the metalworking industry. Having the ability to quickly and efficiently heat the holders to load tools is important. However, having the ability to quickly cool them, so they can be safely handled, is just as important. For that reason, T.M. Smith Tool is introducing the new G5 Shrink Fit tabletop induction-heating machine that not only provides integrated refrigerant cooling, but also a three-station rotary tool holder table that allows operators to heat and cool three tool holders at the same time.

The standard G5 induction-heating machine has a manual vertical column for raising and lowering the heating coil over the tool holder nose. The 400-volt, three phase heating system produces the standard temperature range, from 500-600-degrees F, that effectively expands tool holder bores in six seconds. Higher temperatures are also possible for use with small carbide, high-speed steel and standard alloy tool holder shanks. Induction heating time for those types of tools is from 9 to 15 seconds.

No shop air is required with this machine design because the tool holder cooling system uses refrigerated water instead of air. This cooling system is an integral part of the machine and provides five different cooling adapters depending on tool holder nose tapers. The shrink fit cooling adapters are DIN styles and are conveniently nested on the machine table for use with the three-station rotary table. USA style cooling adapters are also available. A standard G5 machine includes one nose adapter and one shank adapter. A wide range of other adapters is also available. The list price of the machine is $12,998.00 However, there is a special price of $7,998.00 if the buyer purchases 100 shrink fit tool holders or more

T.M. Smith Tool International Corporation was founded in the 1957. It is a leader in the design and manufacture of quick change tool holders for drilling, reaming and tapping. Over time, T.M. Smith has become well known, particularly in the worldwide automotive industry, for quality and innovative design and engineering. The company currently holds over 60 U.S. and international patents in tool holding technology.
