September 15, 2004 - Fenar L gauge system allows checking roundness of crankshaft main or pin journal diameter immediately after grinding, without removing part from machine. It is capable of controlling size on both mains and pins, in range up to 25 mm, without mechanical adjustment. Chordal measurement across 3 contact points can be accomplished with 1–2 rotations of part. Data stream from gauge is sent to PC, either within machine control or off line, where roundness calculations are made.

New Roundness Control for Fenar L In-Process Gauge Allows On-Machine Inspection

Chicago, Ill., Sept. 8, 2004 – Marposs introduced at IMTS 2004 a new Roundness Control function for its Fenar L in-process gauge system for crankshaft orbital grinding applications. The new Roundness Control capability allows checking roundness of a crankshaft main or pin journal diameter immediately after grinding without removing the part from the machine for inspection using an off-line metrology gauge.

The Fenar L gauge was developed by Marposs to complement the versatility of the modern CNC “orbital” crankpin grinder where the grinder’s wheel head precisely follows the non-concentric crankpin as it rotates about the crankshaft’s main bearing centerline. The Fenar L gauge is capable of controlling size on both mains and pins, in a range of up to 25mm, without mechanical adjustment. The Fenar L gauge enables reductions in cycle time, as well as flexibility, reliability and reduction of the size range in various production lots through the continuous value monitoring by the gauge system of part size and cutting speed to within microns/millisecond.

Now, using the same gauge, a chordal measurement across three contact points can be accomplished with 1-2 rotations of the part to check roundness after the grinding cycle is complete. A data stream from the gauge is sent to a PC, either within the machine control or off line, where the roundness calculations are made. The measurement is performed quickly in order to determine if the part roundness is within specified limits. Marposs engineers say that on-machine roundness checking can save valuable production time and help to avoid production of scrap. The on-machine gauge is not meant to replace final inspection.

In process gauge not function

The main problem in our cylindrical grinding machine is controlling for marposs has broken, and we use mannual for checking the result diameter process.
Are there anything for over coming to do this?
