March 1, 2002 - MICRImage enables transmission of image data using Ethernet or RS232 connection. At Ethernet speed of 40K bytes per second, it sends 10K image in 1/4 sec, approximately 400 times faster than RS232 connection speeds. Check reader supports FTP, TELNET, DHCP, and DNS Ethernet standards and can network multiple units on LAN. Applications include point-of-sale (POS) in retail stores.

MagTek’s MICRImage Transmits Check Images at Speed of Ethernet

Carson, CA - February 14, 2002 - MagTek, an internationally known manufacturer of MICR check readers and magnetic stripe card readers, announces the availability of the Ethernet interface on their MICRImage, a highly accurate MICR check reader and image scanner, enabling the transmission of image data at the speed of Ethernet.

MICRImage is designed to facilitate check conversion and reduce costs associated with check processing in all point-of-sale (POS) environments ranging from a single-lane store to multi-lane retailers. It is priced very competitively, making faster Ethernet technology readily accessible at the POS for check conversion with image capture.

"Sending a 10K image file through an RS232 port at 9600 baud would take approximately 10 seconds. Assuming an average Ethernet speed of 40K bytes per second, the same image file would only take a quarter of a second...a significant speed increase," reports Carlos Morales, Product Marketing Manager, MagTek. Additionally, MICRImage supports a comprehensive suite of Ethernet standards (e.g. FTP, TELNET, DHCP, and DNS) to easily network multiple units on a LAN.

An added benefit is the second interface port offered as a standard feature on all MICRImage units. The MICRImage with Ethernet interface comes with a multi-purpose RS232 serial port that can be used to transmit MICR data for check authorization purposes.
