August 20, 2010 - Developed for LCD shutter glasses used with 3D-ready TV sets, dual lens Model TSOP75D25 and single lens Model TSOP35D25 each combine photodiode, amplifier, automatic gain control, band pass filter, demodulator, and control IC into single package. Units receive IR signals from TV set and ensure LCD shutters open and close in proper synchronization to create 3D effect. Operating on carrier frequency of 25 kHz, devices avoid interference from TV and set-top box remote controls.

Vishay's Infrared Receivers for 3D TV Active Glasses Synchronization Feature 25 kHz Carrier Frequency

TSOP75D25 and TSOP35D25 are designed to be assembled into active 3D glasses, where they receive infrared signals from the TV set and ensure the glasses' LCD shutters open and close in proper synchronization to create the 3D effect

MALVERN, Pa. - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) is broadening its optoelectronics portfolio with the release of two infrared receivers developed specifically for the LCD shutter glasses used with 3D-ready TV sets. The surface-mount TSOP75D25 and TSOP35D25 IR receivers are designed to be assembled into active 3D glasses, where they receive infrared signals from the TV set and ensure the glasses' LCD shutters open and close in proper synchronization to create the 3D effect.

The receivers are designed to operate on a carrier frequency of 25 kHz, which is lower than that used by standard remote control systems and thus helps avoid possible interference from TV and set-top box remote controls. Because TV remote control emitters and receivers operate at a wavelength of 940 nm, the TSOP75D25 and TSOP35D25 are designed to receive the 3D synchronization signals from an 830 nm or 850 nm emitter, further avoiding the possibility of interference. Like all of Vishay's IR receivers, the TSOP75D25 and TSOP35D25 feature industry-leading suppression of optical noise from compact fluorescent lights, LCD backlights, and plasma panels.

The TSOP75D25 and TSOP35D25 pack a photodiode, amplifier, automatic gain control, band pass filter, demodulator, and control IC into a single tiny package which helps minimize the weight of 3D glasses, while their ultra-low current consumption maximizes the battery life. Because the TSOP75D25 and TSOP35D25 operate at a carrier frequency of 25 kHz with a signal pattern featuring a minimum burst length of 6 cycles, a very high signal to noise ratio is achieved. Finally, because these new IR receivers receive modulated synchronization signals versus baseband signals, a single emitter can be used in the TV to achieve transmit distance of over 26 meters.

The TSOP75D25 and TSOP35D25 are surface mount devices that can be mounted in a side- or top view. They both have a viewing angle of ± 50° which allows for significant head movement without signal loss. The TSOP75D25 measures 2.3 mm x 3.0 mm x 6.8 mm and has dual lenses while the TSOP35D25 measures 4.0 mm x 5.3 mm x 7.5 mm and has a single lens.

Samples of the new TSOP75D25 and TSOP35D25 are available now. Production orders have a lead time of 6-8 weeks.
