Vishay's New IGBT and MOSFET Drivers Feature 32-V Maximum Supply Voltage, Combine + 110 °C Maximum Operating Temperature and 2.5-mA Maximum Current Draw for Thermal and Power Efficiency

MALVERN, Pa. - June 5, 2009 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) is broadening its optocoupler portfolio with the two new IGBT and MOSFET drivers. Released today, the 2.5-A VO3120 and 0.5-A VO3150A combine the widest operating voltage with high ambient operating temperature ranges and low power consumption to enable better thermal management and more flexible design choices for motor drives, induction stove tops, power supplies, and many other high-voltage applications.

The new VO3120 and VO3150A each consist of an LED optically coupled to an integrated circuit with a power output stage that has an operating voltage range of 15 V to 32 V. The VO3120 and the VO3150A feature an output current up to 2.5 A and 0.5 A respectively. The voltage and current supplied by the new drivers make them ideal for directly driving IGBTs with ratings up to 800 V and 50 A for the VO3120 and 20 A for the VO3150A. Their operating voltage range of up to 32 V, highest in the industry, allows the VO3120 and VO3150A to drive larger modules that typically require a two-sided power supply, thus giving designers more choices in selecting power components.
Both drivers feature a maximum ambient operating temperature of + 110°C, which simplifies thermal management by allowing designers to place them in closer proximity to IGBTs and/or to use smaller heat sinks. Low power consumption of 2.5 mA also helps in minimizing power and heat dissipation. Thermal models are available from Vishay to aid designers in performing thermal simulations.

The VO3120 and VO3150A are offered in lead (Pb)-free and RoHS-compliant DIP-8 and SMD-8 versions. Samples are available now. Production quantities will be available in June 2009 with lead times of four to six weeks for production quantities.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc., a Fortune 1,000 Company listed on the NYSE (VSH), is one of the world's largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors (diodes, rectifiers, MOSFETs, optoelectronics, and selected ICs) and passive electronic components (resistors, capacitors, inductors, sensors, and transducers). These components are used in virtually all types of electronic devices and equipment, in the industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, and medical markets. Its product innovations, successful acquisition strategy, and "one-stop shop" service have made Vishay a global industry leader. Vishay can be found on the Internet at http://www.vishay.com.
