August 11, 2008 - Model EL3602 EtherCAT® I/O terminal samples measurement readings with 24-bit resolution and accuracy within ±0.01% at 25°C. Measuring signals directly in standard I/O system, analog 2-channel input terminal handles signals ranging between -10 and +10 V. Device is capable of executing high-precision measuring tasks on machine or for test rig automation.

Beckhoff Automation Releases EtherCAT® I/O for High Precision Measurement


The new EL3602 EtherCAT® Terminal enables "Scientific Automation" for high accuracy measuring applications

MINNEAPOLIS, July 29, 2008 - To provide ultra high precision measurement devices in the smallest housings possible, Beckhoff Automation has released the new EL3602 EtherCAT® I/O terminal. With the EL3602, Beckhoff offers a new generation of high precision analog measuring equipment designed for use with EtherCAT, the high performance Industrial Ethernet protocol.

The EL3602 samples measurement readings with a 24 bit resolution and accuracy within ±0.01 percent. It is an ideal instrument for meeting high-precision measurement requirements. Seamless integration of this measurement technology into Beckhoff Automation systems makes separate, specialized measuring components unnecessary.

Beyond Automation: Scientific Automation

Beckhoff Automation refers to the integration of engineering functions that go beyond traditional PLC and motion technologies into automation software as "Scientific Automation." The EL3602 builds on the ever-increasing performance of PC-based control technology and an ultra fast communication system such as EtherCAT.

A prime application of Scientific Automation is in measurement technology, which in the past had been performed by highly specialized devices. The EL3602 EtherCAT Terminal measures signals directly in a standard I/O system. The analog 2-channel EL3602 input terminal handles signals ranging between -10 and +10 V. The voltage is digitized with a high, 24 bit resolution. The high precision of ±0.01 percent at 25 °C enables the execution of high-precision measuring tasks on a machine or for test rig automation, for example.
