The New IP20 BradControl Block I/O System with PROFIBUS® Connectivity Now Available

Ideal for applications where in-cabinet mounting, high-density I/O count & modular design are required

August 8, 2006, Deerfield, IL USA. Woodhead Industries, Inc., (NASDAQ:WDHD) a designer and manufacturer of industrial communication products for the global automation market, has announced the release of its IP20 BradControl(TM) Block I/O system for the PROFIBUS-DP network.

The new Block I/O system significantly enhances the BradControl product offering of I/O interface solutions to our existing customers and to the global marketplace. Designed for industrial in-cabinet use, the IP20 system is an effective way to connect industrial I/O devices to a PLC or PC controller over an industrial network. Standard DIN rail mounting makes it convenient to install and adds flexibility to the design. The customizable legends and highly visible LED indicators provide for easy setup and operational validation during the installation and maintenance phases of an automation project.

The BradControl Block I/O system is comprised of a network adapter and up to 32 expansion modules mounted in an enclosure close to the field devices. The ribbon cable-based expansion bus, which handles inter-module communication, operates at 11 MBaud, is permitted to be 6.5 meters in length, and can accommodate a maximum of ten groups of modules. The expandable system is capable of accommodating a maximum of 512 channels of I/O in the form of discrete inputs, discrete solid state outputs, discrete relay outputs, analog inputs, and analog outputs. In addition, interface capability is available for high-speed counter inputs as well as for incremental encoders.

The BradControl PROFIBUS adapter module operates as a PROFIBUS-DP slave, managing signals and data from local field devices through the expansion modules. PROFIBUS-DP is an open architecture fieldbus widely accepted and implemented globally for industrial control solutions. The availability of the PROFIBUS adapter module allows the BradControl Block I/O system to be immediately interoperable with new and existing PROFIBUS control installations and allows customers to select "best in class" solutions for their applications.

The company offers a complete line of PROFIBUS automation solutions through its PC & PLC interfaces, gateways, simulation software, diagnostic tools, cable, cordsets, connectors, receptacles, power media, and IP67 machine-mount & IP20 in-cabinet I/O modules.
