Original Press Release:

New Hydraulic Fluid Technology Meets Increasing Demands of Equipment Builders and End Users

Las Vegas, March 19, 2002-Quaker Chemical Corporation (NYSE: KWR) has introduced a series of fire resistant hydraulic fluids designated QUINTOLUBRIC 888. The new fluids are designed to meet the ever-increasing demands of the global equipment design industry and multi-industry end users, filling the need for consistent high performance and identical product formulations to support worldwide equipment usage.

QUINTOLUBRIC 888 fluids, which do not contain water, mineral oil or phosphate ester, are based on high-quality, synthetic, organic esters (HFD-U) and carefully selected additives. They provide better hydraulic fluid performance than fluids containing water. Available in two viscosities-ISO VG68 and ISO VG46- they can replace anti-wear mineral oil-based hydraulic fluids used in fire hazardous and environmentally sensitive hydraulic applications without compromising overall hydraulic system operation.

"With the continued trend toward globalization in many industries, Quaker has responded by developing a single product that will provide consistent performance and fluid life in operations throughout the world," said Michael Zink, global marketing manager. "QUINTOLUBRIC 888 has identical raw material specifications, formulations, manufacturing specifications and certification of all manufacturing sites throughout the world, providing equipment builders and end users with peace of mind that the product will have globally consistent high performance."

QUINTOLUBRIC 888 fluids can be used in any equipment designed for traditional mineral oil fluids. The product is fire resistant, for applications where fire hazard is a concern, and limits the spread of the fire through its self-extinguishing properties. In addition to fire resistance, these fluids provide excellent biodegradability, are non-irritating, contain no hazardous ingredients and are not toxic to aquatic life, making them ideal for use where better environmental protection is required.

Since inventing polyol ester (HFD-U) hydraulic fluids in the 1970s as an alternative to phosphate ester hydraulic fluids, Quaker's hydraulic fluids have found widespread application in many industries including steel plants, coal mines and foundries. With experience in more than 10,000 hydraulic systems around the world, Quaker has built a strong reputation among both equipment builders and end users.

When properly maintained, QUINTOLUBRIC 888 has a useful life comparable to that of mineral oil fluids and offers a lubrication level comparable to that of premium anti-wear hydraulic fluids.

Quaker Chemical Corporation, headquartered in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, is a worldwide developer, producer and marketer of high-quality chemical specialty products and a provider of fluid management services for industrial customers in the steel, aluminum, and metalworking industries around the globe.
