MaxLinear introduces Hybrid Digital/Analog Tuner for Next-Generation TV Applications

MxL301RF tuner IC offers global TV standard support and low power consumption.

Carlsbad, Calif. - MaxLinear Inc., a leading provider of integrated radio frequency (RF) and mixed-signal integrated circuits for broadband communication applications, today announced the MxL301RF, a new low-power hybrid digital/analog silicon tuner for the next generation of small and large screen television applications.

Based on MaxLinear's existing digital television tuners, the MxL301RF is designed for high-performance hybrid TV applications that require analog as well as digital performance. The MxL301RF device offers low power consumption, consuming only 400 mW in contrast to competing tuners that can consume up to 1.5 watts each.

Measuring 5mm x 5mm in a 32-pin QFN package, the MxL301RF is highly integrated, with built-in features such as a SAW filter function, LNAs, tracking and loop filters.

The device offers software configurable standards support allowing manufacturers to design one single front end for all global markets and then to configure the standards support on a per market basis. The MxL301RF supports major analog and digital TV standards, including ATSC, DVB-T, DVB-H, ISDB-T 13-segment, DMB-T (H), NTSC, PAL and SECAM. The device also supports digital cable standards including ITU-T J.83 Annexes A and C [DVB-C] for Europe, China and India and Annex B [North American Cable], DOCSIS, and EURODOCSIS as well as digital terrestrial reception standards (DVB-T/H, ATSC, ISDB-T and DTMB).

The MxL301RF is sampling now and will be available to ship in production to key customers in Q4/2009. Contact MaxLinear for ordering information.
