The Remstar horizontal carousel is a system of horizontally rotating shelves suspended from a guide track. In a dynamic kitting application, a horizontal carousel is used to store inventory items that, when combined to form a sub-unit or kit, are used in the final assembly of a product. In operation, several assembly stations are arranged around a continuously moving horizontal carousel. Personnel remove individual items from pre-defined shelves and add them to another shelf location that has been allocated to the kit in progress. The horizontal carousel transports the partially completed kit to the next workstation where more components are added to it. Some shelves can be used for buffer storage of kitted parts until they are needed in the assembly or production operation.
