GAF Introduces Innovative New Cobra® Vent Designed for Hip Roofs

Press release date: April 30, 2014

WAYNE, NJ — Over the last 25 - 30 years, roof designs have evolved from the typical A-frame style to those with long, sweeping hips and “cut-up” roof planes. These roof designs often make effective ridge venting impractical. GAF, North America’s largest roofing manufacturer, now offers a solution to this issue with its new Cobra® Hip Vent.

This innovative new product offers 9 square inches of NFA for effective exhaust venting on homes with little or no ridge, and includes a unique Dual Weather Fighter™ Filter to help prevent weather infiltration through and under the vent. With a 5/8" low-profile, shingle-over design, it is virtually invisible when installed at the hip, making it a more aesthetically pleasing option for homeowners. Unlike competitive designs, contractors will appreciate that it’s the only hip vent product available that is fully nail-gunnable, which allows for fast installation.

Many homes in North America do not have proper attic ventilation, as most homeowners are unaware that poor attic ventilation can ruin insulation, destroy shingles, and raise energy bills.
The new Cobra® Hip Vent was designed not only to provide an effective attic ventilation solution for today’s modern roof designs, but also to ensure critical protection against weather infiltration. In addition, the product is contractor-friendly; it requires no messy caulk and comes with 1 ¾" coil nails included.

The Cobra® Hip Vent offers up a to a Lifetime limited warranty when installed on Lifetime Shingle roofs, and is a qualifying component in the GAF Lifetime Roofing System and GAF's System Plus and Golden Pledge® limited warranties.*

* See GAF Shingle & Accessory Ltd. Warranty, System Plus Limited Warranty, and Golden Pledge® Limited Warranty for complete coverage and restrictions.
