Analog Devices Introduces High-Performance Radio Frequency Mixers

New ADL5353 and ADL5354 mixers enable designs with high dynamic range and low noise requirements.

NORWOOD, Mass. - Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), a world leader in semiconductors for signal processing applications, today announced the introduction of two new high-performance RF (radio frequency) passive mixers for a variety of wireless applications, such as cellular base station receivers, transmit observation receivers and radio link downconverters. Designing for these applications requires high linearity and low noise and has always been a challenge as existing mixer solutions often require external components, such as baluns and matching components that add complexity to the design. ADI's new single-channel ADL5353 and dual-channel ADL5354 integrated passive mixers simplify designs, offer best-in-class performance, and complement ADI's broad mixer portfolio by extending the frequency coverage of ADI's mixer products.

Operating in the 2300 to 2900 MHz frequency range, the single-channel ADL5353 mixer and the dual-channel ADL5354 mixer offer the highest level of integration including an RF balun, LO (local oscillator) switch for dual LO frequency applications, LO driver and an integrated IF (intermediate frequency) amplifier. The balun integration enables the RF signal to be driven single-ended. The integrated IF amplifier provides the necessary gain, thereby eliminating the need for an external gain stage. Both the ADL5353 and ADL5354 provide best-in-class IP3 and noise figure performance resulting in excellent spurious free dynamic range. These mixers also offer excellent noise figure under blocker signal performance. High spurious-free dynamic range and low noise figure under blocker performance enable the mixer to be used in applications where the receiver is operating in the presence of large interfering signals. The 5-V (nominal) ADL5353 and ADL5354 can also be operated on a 3.3-V supply voltage for power-conscious applications. Complete specifications and data sheets are available at www.analog.com/pr/adl5353 and www.analog.com/pr/adl5354.

Pricing, Availability and Complementary Products
Both the ADL5353 and ADL5354 are available now. The ADL5353 single-channel mixer is available in a 20-lead LFCSP and is priced at $6.98 per unit in 1,000-unit quantities. The ADL5354 dual channel mixer is available in a 36-lead LFCSP and is priced at $9.98 per unit in 1,000-unit quantities. Both mixers are well-suited to work with ADI's integrated PLL/VCO synthesizers including the ADF4350, ADF4360-0, ADF4360-1 and ADF4360-2 as well as PLLs including the ADF4106 and ADF4153.

ADI's RF IC Portfolio Covers Entire RF Signal Chain
Using a unique combination of design skills, system understanding and process technologies, Analog Devices offers the broadest portfolio of RF ICs covering the entire RF signal chain from industry-leading high-performance RF function blocks to highly integrated WiMAX and short-range, single chip transceiver solutions. The RF function blocks include PLL, integrated PLL/VCO and DDS synthesizers; TruPwr(TM) RMS power detectors and logarithmic amplifiers; X-Amp® variable gain amplifiers; power amplifiers, low noise amplifiers and other amplifiers; RF mixers and direct conversion modulator and demodulator products. These products are supported by a wide range of free design tools to ease the development of RF systems.
