Jervis B. Webb Company Introduces Innovative Friction Drive Conveyor System

FARMINGTON HILLS, MICH. - Jervis B. Webb Company - a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daifuku Co., Ltd. and leading provider of material handling solutions - has expanded its conveyor product line with the introduction of its new friction drive conveyor system. The friction drive conveyor is an ideal alternative for overhead and inverted power & free conveyors and can be used to move anything from car bodies to small appliances.

"Back in 1919, our company revolutionized mass production when we adapted the rivetless chain conveyor for the automotive industry," said Brian Stewart, president and co-CEO of Jervis B. Webb Company. "Today, we continue to lead the industry in developing cutting-edge conveyor systems such as our flexible and cost-effective friction drive conveyor system."

Unlike traditional conveyors that use chains, Webb's new style friction conveyor utilizes drive wheel technology to move the load along the conveyor path. Webb's friction drive conveyor utilizes conventional I-beam available anywhere in the world, eliminating the need for custom track sections.

"Because we use standard I-beam, our new friction conveyor is easier to maintain and install than traditional chain conveyor," added Stewart. "Our new friction conveyor can negotiate inclines and declines and is quieter and cleaner than chain conveyors, which need to be lubricated more frequently."

Friction conveyor offers a smooth continuous flow of products and can travel up to 240 feet per minute. The heavy-duty friction conveyor model can move loads up to 2500 pounds and the light-duty model as little as 250 pounds. In addition, Webb offers variable frequency drives, which allow speeds to be adjusted as needed.

Because certain applications require chain conveyors, Webb designed its friction conveyor to integrate seamlessly with power & free and chain conveyors.

An operational model of the friction conveyor system is available for viewing at the Webb Daifuku Demonstration Facility in Wixom, Mich., which is near Webb's headquarters in Farmington Hills, Mich.
