New Eliminator(R) M-Type(TM) Heavy-Duty Belt Cleaner From Flexco Removes Worst Carryback, Works With Mechanical Fasteners

DOWNERS GROVE (IL), NOV. 8, 2001 -- A new addition to the Eliminator® Belt Cleaning Systems from Flexco -- the M-Type™ Precleaner for underground mines and worst-case aboveground applications -- features a more massive blade that firmly shaves off thick, heavy, wet, clinging carryback, serving mechanically fastened as well as vulcanized belts. While robust blade design accommodates extreme conditions, a simple, compact mounting/tensioning system allows installation close against the head pulley within the discharge chute, to keep valuable material in the product stream while minimizing underbelt cleanup elsewhere.

As with all Eliminator belt cleaners, the M-Type is backed by a 30-day guarantee that allows return for full credit or refund, if performance fails to meet user expectations.

Blades of specially formulated urethane are supplied in 6" (1 52mm)-wide segments, molded with a deep base keyway that fits over and bolts through a flange running along the length of the cleaner's square tubular steel base. Blade shape is specially configured to provide more than 6" of wear life while allowing the blade angle to adjust continuously throughout wear life to maintain the optimum angle addressing the belt. A molded-in wear-limit line marked with a hole provides quick visual indication of when blade replacement is due, while weardown to that level opens the hole and starts leaving a telltale carryback streak noticeable anywhere along the conveyor line.

Installation is simplified, especially in cramped spaces, by independently attached blade segments and a telescoping pole-type mounting system. Pole end-sections are supplied as two separate pieces, each with weld-on, square tubular steel jackets that fit snugly into both ends of the square tubular center blade base, and secure with two set screws. This results in a three-piece assembly that compresses for easy placement within chutes, then allows easy adjustment of length to suit interior space, and easy lateral adjustment of blade position relative to belt centerline. The blade-pole assembly is supported at both ends by urethane-encased Flex Bearings protected within steel housings.

Blade-to-belt tension is applied by spring arms at outer ends of the pole, with spring tension controlled by simple screw/nut adjustment, performed from beside the conveyor for safety.

Tension is balanced with the convenience of white lines painted on each spring as reference points for comparison measurement of coil gaps, and easily monitored by periodic observation of the gaps.

M-Type cleaners are mounted with two brackets that bolt or weld onto any conveyor structure, with one bracket on each side. Two additional bolt-on brackets allow the spring tensioning devices to be independently anchored on both sides of the conveyor, in an infinite variety of positions. The combined shock-absorbing action of spring tensioners and Flex Bearings allows the blades to move outward so mechanical belt splices can pass without damage, then returns the blades quickly and firmly against the belt for minimal disruption to cleaning.

Two blade sizes, Small and Large, respectively accommodate head-pulley diameters ranging from 14" to 35" (356 to 889mm) and 32" to 53" (813-1346mm). Cleaners are available to suit belt widths from 36" to 72" (900-1800mm), and can be special-ordered for other belt widths.
