Eclipsys Sunrise Software Shines Brightly in Interoperability Testing at IHE Connectathon

- Company to Demonstrate Vendor Interoperability at HIMSS '05 as Step Toward National Electronic Health Record -

BOCA RATON, Fla., Feb. 9 -- Eclipsys Corporation(R) (NASDAQ:ECLP), The Outcomes Company(R), today announced that its Sunrise(TM) Clinical Manager software successfully shared information with systems from other vendors at the recent Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) Connectathon. This level of interoperability represents an important achievement in preparing for the U.S. federal government's goal of a nationwide electronic health record (EHR) for most Americans within a decade.

Connectathon, an annual integration testing event, brought together 48 vendors of information technology, cardiology and radiology systems to test the interoperability of 102 products and work out any unresolved technical issues that would prevent the systems from communicating. Connectathon was sponsored by IHE, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the American College of Cardiology and the Radiological Society of North America.

"At Connectathon, we were required to demonstrate that we could share information with at least three systems by different vendors through a central registry," said Didi Davis, Eclipsys director of Technology Solutions. "We were able to successfully test our Sunrise software with all of the participating EHR vendors." Davis is also co-chair of the Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure Planning Committee of Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise, an organization that promotes the use of standards in healthcare IT products. Eclipsys is a founding member of IHE and continues to play a leading role.

"Interoperability of advanced healthcare information systems such as Sunrise Clinical Manager is critical to connecting people and processes throughout an enterprise," said Paul L. Ruflin, Eclipsys president and CEO. "Achieving that alone is a major step forward in transforming healthcare delivery. But more broadly, system interoperability is essential to eventually achieving easy, secure and convenient access to vital patient information wherever it is needed across the country. We're proud that Eclipsys solutions already meet this developing standard, and are pleased to play a continued leadership role in this important initiative."

Easier, faster

"Products that pass the interoperability tests are easier and faster to implement," said David S. Channin, M.D., associate professor of Radiology and chief of Imaging at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and a member of the IHE Strategic Development Committee.

John Gomez, Eclipsys chief technology and security officer, agreed, stating that "One of the long-standing Eclipsys differentiators is that our software solutions are built on the XA extended architecture, which utilizes open, industry-standard technologies. This definitely makes our solutions easier to implement and maintain, speeding return on investment and enabling interoperability with other systems."

eLink: A seamless flow of information

One Eclipsys product essential to the company's ability to enable interoperability is Sunrise eLink, an advanced enterprise application integration (EAI) solution. eLink provides easy application-to-application integration support while eliminating the need to learn programming languages due to its graphical user interface-based design. It enables a seamless flow of information across the enterprise and between the enterprise and suppliers, customers and business partners in a manner that is fast, scalable, reliable and secure.

Interoperability at HIMSS '05

Eclipsys is co-sponsoring and actively participating in the HIMSS Cross- Enterprise and Ambulatory Care Interoperability Showcases. These showcases will be part of the upcoming Annual Conference and Exhibition of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, held this year on February 13-17 in Dallas, Texas. As part of the HIMSS interoperability showcases, visitors to Eclipsys booth #4351 will access their Simulated Electronic Health Record and will have the opportunity to add a History and Physical (H&P) to the show-wide registry. The H&P will be created within Sunrise Clinical Manager, linked via the show-wide registry and then available at all other Interoperability Showcase locations.

Sunrise Clinical Manager is among only 32 of the 102 products tested at Connectathon to be used in the HIMSS Interoperability Showcases.
