New Harmonic Attenuator Module

Enhances Vicor power conversion systems, providing twice the power density, fewer components, and lower cost

Andover, MA, February 2, 2005...Vicor Corporation (NASDAQ: VICR) announced the introduction of the high-boost VI-HAM (Harmonic Attenuator Module). This is a universal AC input, PFC front-end module that has been optimized for use with Vicor's V375 series of DC-DC converters. A single high-boost VI-HAM may be used with any combination of V375 series DC-DC converters (available in quarter-, half-, and full-brick packages) up to 600 Watts resulting in a power conversion system with twice the power density, fewer components, and lower cost compared to previous VI-HAM based solutions. Parallelable versions are also available for applications requiring over 600 Watts of output power.

In addition, the high-boost VI-HAM is fully compatible with Vicor's VI-26x and VI-J6x series DC-DC converters giving designers the freedom to choose from the industry's broadest selection of DC-DC converters with outputs from 2 to 95 Vdc, at 50 to 600 Watts.

The VI-HAM consists of a full-wave rectifier, a proprietary high-frequency zero-current switching (ZCS) boost converter, and includes active inrush current limiting, over temperature and short circuit protection, control, and housekeeping circuitry. The user needs only to provide external hold-up capacitors, a few components and Vicor's 07818 line filter.

"Using the new High-Boost HAM in a power conversion system allows designers to fully utilize the 600 Watt power capability of Vicor's V375 series of DC-DC converters with the added bonus of reduced system complexity and lower cost per Watt," said Jeffrey Hord, Sr. Product Marketing Manager.

Pricing for high-boost VI-HAM modules is the same as for the existing VI-HAM family (as low as $99 in quantities of 5,000), and they are available from stock.
