Half-Rack Network Appliance Delivers Full-Sized Performance with Less Power and Space

(Taipei, Taiwan - December 18, 2008) Lanner Electronics, Inc., a leading supplier of highly integrated network application platforms, today announced the release of the FW-7872, a 1U half-rack network appliance for network security and acceleration applications.

Built around the Intel 945GME chipset, the FW-7872 provides Core 2 Duo and Celeron M support, up to 4GB of DDR2, four Gigabit Ethernet ports and two internal 2.5" drive bays. It also includes advanced remote management features through IPMI and IP-KVM support, enabling administrators to monitor the system and perform maintenance tasks remotely.

"Lanner has created a unique platform for our customers with the FW-7872," said Jesse Chiang, Network Communications Product Planner at Lanner. "The half-rack form factor achieves the same level of power and efficiency as a full 1U appliance but in half the space, leaving half of the rack space for additional equipment or another half-rack appliance. Additionally, it offers a range of remote management features which make it an excellent choice as a platform for security appliances like UTMs, or network optimization appliances like load balancing or WAN accelerators."

The FW-7872 also offers high availability features including hardware bypass and redundant power supplies, and sufficient networking for the most intensive network applications with four front-facing GbE LAN ports and a fifth RJ45 for IPMI administration. It is designed to fit in either four-post or two-post Telco racks, and includes mounting brackets for flexible rack mount or wall mount deployment.

Lower power consumption and less heat generation round out the "green" aspects of the FW-7872, making it an ideal platform for environment-conscious applications.

"Network appliance developers are increasingly looking for more compact, robust and energy efficient hardware platforms while maintaining the same levels of performance," said Chiang. "With the 7872, Lanner has developed a powerful network application platform that achieves unsurpassed reliability and solid performance with only half the footprint of a standard 1U rackmount appliance. We are confident this product will bring immediate competitive benefits to our solution partners, and will help developers maximize returns on their product offerings by providing long life cycle benefits at every stage of the product's life - by helping them to get products to market quickly, stay in the market longer and avoid costly processor and chipset obsolescence."

The Lanner FW-7872 is available for sample orders immediately. For more information, visit the Lanner website at www.lannerinc.com/FW-7872 or contact a sales representative by email at sales@lannerinc.com.
