Compact Gundrilling Unit

Somex Inc. of Grand Blanc, MI now offers a unique deep-hole drilling unit for the mold-making and production machining industries. The ECPP4 combines the high quality Somex spindles and slides with the components essential to gundrilling. A chip/coolant recovery box, drill bushing plate, high pressure coolant union, gundrill adapter, and choice of servo motors are all included in the package.

The spindle has a 40 taper opening, with high precision angular contact ball bearings, with a 3HP AC motor and poly-V belt drive for quiet, smooth torque transmission. The slide consists of a cast iron base, linear ball guides, and a ground, 25mm ballscrew fitted to the choice of stroke lengths. Strokes of 135mm and higher are possible, and drilling diameters of 2mm to 14mm. Speeds can range from 400 rpm to 8500 rpm. The drill bushing is fitted to the desired tool. Options include servo controls, frequency drive, and risers and vertical supports.

The user can use CAD drawings from Somex to lay the unit out for their unique needs. The unit has an especially compact footprint and can be fitted to the application with very little space. The small space also enables users to line several units up for even more production deep hole drilling.

The ECPP4 evolved from Somex's compete line of precision drilling units, tapping units, spindle, slides, and multi-axis modules. Contact Dan Brcic at Somex Inc. danb@somexinc.com or call 888-SOMEXNA, or view this unit at somexinc.com.
