New Areamaster(TM) Green LED Luminaire Uncovers Hidden Flaws in Steel

ROSEMONT, IL - Appleton today introduced the lighting industry's first ordinary location green LED floodlight/high-bay luminaire designed specifically for surface inspection of steel.

New Areamaster® Green LED luminaires from Appleton allow otherwise invisible flaws to be seen by technicians inspecting steel arriving from mills, such as hairline cracks or blistering that may be undetectable under normal white cool light, making the new fixtures especially effective in automobile manufacturing plants.

"The development of the Areamaster Green LED is a perfect example of Appleton engineering products to meet the changing needs of our customers," said Jean-Baptiste Trollé, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Appleton and its ECM business unit. "In fact, it was developed in response to an end user's request for an energy-efficient, high-quality LED lighting fixture for use when receiving steel at an automotive facility. However, its advantages are applicable to a wide variety of users that rely upon the highest standards of steel quality."

Built for Demanding Use

Rugged to withstand manufacturing environments including high levels of heat and humidity, the Areamaster Green LED is rated NEMA 4X and IP66. It features a one-piece, enclosed die-cast aluminum housing with a corrosion-resistant architectural bronze polyester finish. For an added measure of protection, the lens is made of thermal-shock, impact-resistant glass. Moreover, the LEDs themselves are resistant to shock and vibration, plus produce very little heat in the beam.

The Areamaster Green LED accepts voltage from 120-277VAC, 50-60Hz and generates 8,075 lumens. Its highly directional light does not require the use of external optics, resulting in system efficiencies as high as 80 percent and the concentrating of more light on the inspection area with less spillage outside the area of interest.

The Areamaster LED is versatile with a universal design for flood or high-bay mounting, making it ideal for replacing virtually any HID, fluorescent or incandescent fixture. For more details about the Areamaster™ line and other Appleton lighting solutions, please visit www.appletonelec.com.
